In 2017 Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi as well as Daddy Yankee released Despacito and it was the top-streamed track during the course of one year. At the time of 2020, some reggaeton artists were expressing displeasure at the genre's direction toward the mainstream but a new generation including Rauw Alejandro wanted to ensure that reggaeton was evolving. He often used elements of electronic dance music, and other genres.
